My compression stockings hurt the back of my knees because of wrinkling fabric. What can I do?

Make sure that the stockings fit well and are not too old.

Question: My compression stockings really hurt the back of my knees I cannot get my compression stockings to not have wrinkles. These wrinkles gather around the back of my knee and really hurt. How do I overcome that?

Answer: Unfortunately, the knee joint bends, so it is a common problem for the compression stockings to fold and cause some discomfort. This is even more true for patients who have to sit for long periods of time, and if the stockings do not fit well.

Make sure that the stockings fit well and are not too old. Greater than 3 months of use and it is time for new ones.

The other consideration, if possible, is to switch to knee high stockings.
