Question: I am getting ready to have a varicose vein treatment but am afraid that I may develop blood clots and die. What should I do? Thanks.
Answer: There is very low risk of developing a complication from venous intervention as long as the provider is experienced in the treatment they are performing. There is a very low risk of a secondary DVT (deep vein thrombus) which most providers will go over with the patient prior to treatment. As with all interventions there are risks and benefits of vein treatment. If your symptoms are significant enough, and the provider feels intervention is warranted, educate yourself, ask any lingering questions, and make the decision that is best for you.
