Can my husband wear his compression stockings while his leg is swollen?
Evaluate for deep vein thrombus prior to using a heavier grade compression stocking.
Question: My husband had a blood clot in his right leg about a year ago and went to the hospital. He was eventually prescribed Xarelto and compression stockings. In the last couple of days his left leg has been swelling, red, and a little warm right above his ankle.
Answer: By the description alone, this sounds like a superficial thrombus, however; with his history of Xarelto which is usually used for a deep vein thrombus, he should have an ultrasound prior to using a heavier grade compression stocking.
