Jilanne Rose, DNP, RNFA, ANP-C
Nurse Practitioner & Clinical Director
Jilanne Rose, DNP, ANP-C is a board-certified doctorate adult nurse practitioner with over 10,000 vein care procedures to her credit. Jilanne is the valley's top varicose veins specialist. She graduated from Northern Arizona University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1996, went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Nursing from Vanderbilt University in 2004, as well as her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree in 2017.
Jilanne is Phoenix Metros only Nurse Practitioner that has been trained extensively by a Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgeon, an Interventional Radiologist, and an Interventional Cardiologist. As a vein doctor, she is highly regarded by patients and physicians who seek her out because of her expertise in vein disease, her commitment to compassionate care, and her excellent success rates. As a peripheral vascular specialist that has solely performed well over 10,000 peripheral vascular interventions, spent well over 31,500 hours treating patients with vein and cardiovascular disease, she is dedicated to helping patients achieve a pain-free, healthy and happy life.
Joel Rainwater, MD
Dr. Joel Rainwater is the Medical Director at Advanced Vein Institute of Arizona. A graduate of renowned University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dr. Rainwater completed an internship in the Parkland Health & Hospital System at the UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina and returned to Texas to complete a fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He is board certified by the American Board of Radiology.
In 1997, Dr. Rainwater joined the oldest and largest professional group in Arizona, based at Desert Samaritan Hospital (now Banner Desert Medical Center and Cardon’s Children’s Medical Center) and subsequently became the group’s youngest-ever president. While there, he developed the Interventional Oncology and Endovascular programs for the Centers. By 2012, the Liver Cancer Treatment Program at Banner Desert Medical Center in Mesa had the highest volume of patients and successful outcomes in the entire Southwest.
Highly regarded as the doctor’s doctor, Dr. Rainwater has proctored and trained 54 physicians in radioembolization of liver tumors and has assisted in opening 24 hospital Y90 microsphere radioembolization programs from Ohio to Hawaii. His passion for multidisciplinary collaboration has become the template for endovascular advisory committees such as the one at Banner Desert Medical Center.
Dr. Rainwater formed the Apex Medical Specialists, which has an annual growth rate of 500%, a multispecialty group developed to aligned patient care. He is also the founder of Comprehensive Interventional Care Centers (CiC), the largest clinically-oriented outpatient vascular practice in Arizona and the entire Southwest region of the United States. At the Mesa vein and vascular facility, he has performed over 10,000 angiography-based procedures and 2,500 limb-salvage procedures.
For many years, Phoenix Magazine has recognized Dr. Rainwater as a “Top Doc” in Arizona. He has dedicated his career to helping patients by providing precise, targeted and minimally-invasive approaches to both diagnosis and treatment. He works closely and collaboratively with Advanced Vein Institute of Arizona to provide a spectrum of peripheral vascular disease interventions. His proven approach reduces patient risk and pain while significantly reducing recovery times.
Karlea Bader, RT, RDMS, RVT
Registered Vascular Technician
Karlea is one of our sonographers with over 9 years of cardiovascular ultrasound experience in both hospital settings as well as private practice. Karlea has worked with Jilanne for several years, performing and interpreting ultrasound vein mapping, lower venous ultrasounds, SVT and DVT evaluations, carotid doppler, and lower arterial ultrasound. She has extensive experience assisting with ultrasound guided endovenous ablation as well as ultrasound guided sclerotherapy at the Scottsdale vein center as well as AVIA's Tempe vein center. Karlea began her career as a cardiovascular technologist in California where she was exposed to the opportunity for sonography. This is where she found her calling and passion, as a cardiac sonographer.

Susan Johnson, RT, RDMS, RVT
Registered Vascular Technician
Susan is one of our clinical sonographers and registered vascular technician with over 35 years of ultrasound experience in transvaginal ultrasound evaluation of vulvar varicosities, vascular studies, color flow imaging, small parts, ob/gyn, and invasive procedures. She is keenly aware of the stresses and concerns patients can experience while undergoing testing and treatment. Susan is able to provide your vein specialist with a very clear image and map of your veins, allowing appropriate treatment decisions to be carried out.

Lucy is our lead Medical Assistant and has worked with Jilanne since 2011, previously at a Scottsdale vein center before moving to Tempe. Michella is our Business Office Coordinator and one of our Financial Counselors. She is our insurance billing specialist, and spends every day billing and tracking insurance claims. If your question is, "Does insurance cover varicose vein treatment?", she will know all the details you need to know. Michella has several years of experience in billing, accounting and management, and loves interacting with our patients. She is extremely knowledgeable working with insurance companies regarding vein treatment and puts her dedication to work for AVIA. Michella is a Nationally Certified Insurance and Coding Specialist and is a member of the Arizona Medical Group Managers Association.

Jason received his master’s degree from the University of Phoenix with a concentration on healthcare administration.
